The market remains sensitive to volume changes currently, with a mixed bag for indicators this week and slight improvement overall as volumes eased.
The Eastern Market Indicator (EMI) finished 5¢ higher to 1909¢ in Australian Dollar (AUD) terms and up 13¢ to 1325¢ in United States dollar (USD) terms. The bale offering fell by 10% this week to 28,960. Buyers were more willing to acquire wool on offer at this week’s prices and with less to choose from the pass in rate fell to 5.7%, which was down from 16.9% the week before. In total 27,307 bales were sold, which is 15% below the average for the past 12 months.
Looking at local market indicators, Sydney fell by 3¢ to 1968¢, Melbourne gained 9¢ to 2869¢ and Fremantle was up by 22¢ to 2094¢.
In Sydney, mix results for fine and medium merino saw 17 MPG fall by 29¢ to 2588¢ and 19 MPG fall by 12¢ to 2302¢ but 17.5 MPG rise by 12¢ to 2567¢ and 19.5 MPG rise by 26¢ to 2226¢. 28 MPG lost 50¢ to 850¢ and cardings saw no change at 1231¢.
In Melbourne, good results for fine and medium merino but not so great for crossbred wool and cardings. 18 MPG rose by 13¢ to 2508¢ and 20 MPG was up by 41¢ to 2159¢ however 26 MPG shed 35¢ to 1150¢, 28 MPG was down by 30¢ to 855¢, and cardings dropped by 11¢ to 1185¢.
In the west, fine and medium merino had a good day with 18 MPG up by 44¢ to 2504¢, 19 MPG up by 30¢ to 2322¢ and 20 MPG up by 15¢ to 2140¢. Cardings however fell by 16¢ to 1182¢.
